Improving the management of the natural environment
The fight against invasive species
Deltas, which are situated at the lower end of hydrographical networks, are under particular threat of being overrun by exotic species whose propagation is facilitated by the globalisation of commercial transport and exchanges. Numerous aquatic species, both plant and animal, have gained a foothold in the Rhône delta, for example the blue and red lobster, and weeds associated with rice. Species such as the Water primrose are propagated by irrigation. They pose a serious problem for the aquatic environment, which they colonise to the detriment of the local flora and fauna. And they can be difficult to get rid of. The park helps to disseminate information about these species (see, for example, its brochure on the Water primrose), and it is running a project on this theme. It is also experimenting with systems for filtering irrigation water in the Mas de la Cure, which it administers.
