A Regional Nature Park is a sensitive rural territory with a remarkable natural patrimony. It is responsible for sound management, long-term protection measures, and social and economic development. Its legislative framework is established by the Ministry of the Environment. It is administered by the bodies that are party to its Charter.

What is the function of a Regional Nature Park? :
Its function is to protect and develop its natural, cultural and human capital through the implementation of economic, social and cultural policies founded on respect for the environment.
What are the responsibilities of a Regional Nature Park? :
They are:
• The protection and management of a natural and cultural heritage
The aim is to manage rural environments in a harmonious way, to maintain their biological diversity, to preserve and develop natural resources, landscapes and sites that are remarkable but sensitive*, and also to nurture a priceless cultural heritage.
• Territorial management
As an integral component of national and regional policy, a Regional Nature Park contributes to working out management policies that respect the environment.
• Economic and social development
A Regional Nature Park directs and coordinates economic and social activity in such a way as to preserve the quality of life within its boundaries. It supports projects that respect and develop its natural and human resources.
• Services provided for visitors; education and information
It encourages contact with nature, publicises environmental issues, and allows people to explore its territory through educational and cultural activities, and (of course) tourism.
• Research
It contributes to scientific programmes, and develops procedures and methods that can find applications in other, similar contexts.

*They may be threatened by a decline in economic vitality, by excessive urbanisation, or by pressure from tourism.
